Social and community participation is about meeting people in the wider community where a person lives, with similar interests and joining in activities. It is crucial for the physical and mental well being of an individual, because engaging in the wider community reap a wide range of benefits, including:

- Providing opportunities for learning and growth
- Building social networks
- Enhancing mutual collaborations
- Increasing resilience
- Having a shared celebrations and traditions
Barriers to community participation
For people living with a disability, they are often faced with multiple barriers, including:
- Physical barriers: the environment and their conditions
- Social barriers: negative attitudes and prejudices of others
- Communication barriers: difficulty of understanding
- Economic barriers: financial challenges
How Pullinger Health can help?
At Pullinger Health, our support staff will come alongside each NDIS participant with compassion, empathy and respect, in order to achieve the following actions:
- Culturally sensitve services: Currently, we have support staff from the Asian Chinese community. We will endeavour to match your cultural needs with the most appropriate support staff.
- Promote accessibility: to help participants to overcome their obstacles and find activities of their interest.
- Facilitate communication: to provide communication support to meet participants’ needs.
- Respect and embrace cultural diversities
- Advocacy: to speak up when participants require support, and to support participants to express their needs and wishes.
